WARNING: KAYAKING IS ADDICTIVE!
Glasgow Kayak Club Whitewater section is all about giving people the confidence to get on the water.
Over the years, GKC has created a brilliant community who all love to paddle together. With a good sized group of active members, river trips take place almost every weekend and always include a healthy dose of banter, endless encouragement, and a shared love of pushing limits. It may sound cheesy, but we're a big kayaking family, and our reputation for running great trips and brilliant camaraderie has attracted members from all over the country.
What makes us a great club?
We have regular sessions at Pinkston Watersports - Scotland's only artificial whitewater course. We've got great volunteer coaches, including the winner of Scottish Canoe Association Coach of the Year 2023 and British Canoeing UK Coach of the Year. We regularly support members when they're ready to become a White Water Leader, take a White Water Safety Course, or pursue a coaching certificate.
If you're looking to improve your paddling, GKC is the place to push yourself!
We’re great value for money too…
We want to make kayaking as accessible as possible. An annual membership costs only £52 for adults and includes access to trips, boats, equipment and a lot of coaching, both structured and peer to peer. Club nights at Pinkston cost £12 a session. A total steal!
Want to give it a try?
Our Club Nights at Pinkston Watersports Centre are 3x per month on a Tuesday night for most of the year.
If you:
Are 16 years old or over
Are a competent swimmer
Have completed Pinkston’s Whitewater Progression Courses
Or are comfortable on Grade 2 rivers or higher
Then you can come along to one of our Pinkston Sessions free of charge to meet the club, paddle with us, and see if it's for you. Drop us a message with the form on the joining page if you'd like to come along to a session.
Read more here about what to expect when you come along.
PINKSTON CLUB SESSIONS
We run sessions 3 times a month at Pinkston Water Sports - Scotland’s only artificial Whitewater course. Tuesdays 7pm -8.30pm
RIVER TRIPS
You’ll soon learn to look forward to rain! We run regular club trips (most weekends, weather permitting) and joining will also open up a “network” of paddlers who arrange peer paddles.
POOL SESSIONS
In the winter we host indoor pool sessions, perfect for getting to grips with the dark art of rolling. Also great for practicing freestyle tricks and generally getting comfortable being upside down!
